Get Your Fats In Order

Modern society has you getting the mass majority of your fats from Omega-6’s, eating too many trans-fats, and getting very, very little Omega-3’s. Omega-6 is involved in creating inflammation and Omega-3 is anti-inflammatory.
It’s also likely that you’re eating a lot of commercially-raised animal products which contain toxins and a poor, unbalanced assortment of fats. Commercially raised, un-naturally fed animals have an unhealthy balance of fatty acids, are low on certain super healthy fatty acids, and as a result – create a variety of conditions. The “modern,” commercial treatment of animals is a major reason people often respond to vegetarian diets.
Like Omega-3’s, monounsaturated fats from whole foods like Extra Virgin Olive oil and raw almonds are often lacking in many diets. However, for some, there is an overemphasis on monounsaturated fats, which can be found in body fat, and an under-emphasis on MCTs (medium-chain triglycerides) from coconut oil that aren’t found in body fat and even help you burn fat.
Are your fats out of order?
Too many people get their fats wrong. Some of the most frequent mistakes I see include:
- Too many Omega-6’s
- Too few Omega-3’s
- Too many commercial animal products
- Missing monounsaturated fats (and sometimes, too many!)
- Missing MCTs
- Missing pasture-raised animal fats
